Deputies with the Greene County Sheriff's office are serving a search warrant at a home and on vehicles in Quail Haven Estates in Fair Grove Wednesday a little before 5:30 p.m. in connection to a child who has allegedly suffered life threatening injuries.
Authorities were called to the 1100 block of Quail Haven Lane about 10:o0 this morning (07-07-10) and were given conflicting stories by relatives of the three year-old little girl. Sources say the girl has severe head injuries.
A relative has been taken to the sheriff's office for questioning.
UPDATE 07-09-10:
Captain Gibson says there has been a slight improvement in the girl's condition, but that she is still in critical condition.
Gibson says the 9-1-1 call came in as a child being injured by glass. The father and his live-in girlfriend told first responders that the girl was on her bike and ran into the back of a vehicle. Gibson says after questioning the couple further they gave officers conflicting statements about how the toddler was injured.
According to Gibson, the father and the children's biological mother have a shared custody agreement. Two other children were not at the home when the 3 year-old was injured.
Authorities are reconstructing the crime scene and it could be a few weeks before the report is complete.
As of 4 p.m. Friday July 9th the return of the search warrants were not filed in the circuit clerks office.
Possible charges could range from child abuse resulting in serious injury or death to filing a false police report.
