A man from Springfield will spend the rest of his life behind bars for his role in a 2008 murder for hire plot in which were six people were charged with murder.
After a bench trial Judge Tom Mountjoy found Rusty Amoss guilty of killing Stephen E. Rash on December 5, 2008. Prosecutors say the murder plan was hatched by Rash's wife, Theresa, and her lover Jeffery Bloom, whose trial is scheduled to begin on October 31st.

According to court records, the plot to kill Rash, who Theresa Rash wanted murdered for verbally abusing her, was put in motion about a week before Stephen Rash was found dead on his kitchen floor. He had been bludgeoned with a pipe and his throat had been slashed.

Theresa Rash's daughter, Alexandrea McNeeley and her boyfriend Troy Christiansen, have entered into plea agreements with the state and may be called on to testify against the remaining Theresa Rash and Bloom.
First-degree murder charges were dropped against McNeeley and Christiansen (who will not be sentenced until all the other defendants have been sentenced) and were replaced with conspiracy to commit murder charges in exchange for their cooperation in the case.
