A police officer from Republic was injured by an alleged under aged drunk driver near Pinegar Chevrolet on Hwy 60 about 6:30 p.m. this evening (09-11-10.)
The 17 year-old driver floored the gas when Officer Loren Nystrom attempted to remove the keys from his ignition and ran over him. When the Nystrom was struck, a passenger in the vehicle jumped out.

A police chopper was brought in to search for the vehicle which was found wrecked near Dairy Queen in Republic.
Nystrom was taken to St. John's with serious. The driver and his passenger were also transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
Muliple charges are pending against the driver.

Officer Nystrom has been released from the hospital and is recovering from his injuries at home.

UPDATE 09-13-10:
Aaron Allen Gorman, 17, of Aurora, has been charged with second degree assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance (marijuana), unlawful use of drug paraphernalia and vehicular assault. Gorman also allegedly blew positive for alcohol on a portable breathalyzer. DWI charges are pending.
His bond has been has been recommended at $50,000.
