Authorities in Aurora say they've caught the man responsible for vandalizing several graves in Maple Park Cemetery, some of them belonging to Veterans.
Interim police chief Pat Jenkins says that Martin police received a tip that a white van was driving on Jefferson destroying mailboxes Saturday night. Jenkins says that officers stopped the van and arrested Justin Scott Martin, 21, Aurora, for DWI and property damage.
The police department was notified Sunday about extensive damage at Maple Park Cemetery. Authorities investigating the vandalism at the cemetery found two pieces of a vehicle that allegedly match Martin's van. Twenty three grave sites were damaged, including those of several veterans.
Martin has been charged with institutional vandalism. He is being held in the Lawrence County jail on $10,000 bond. Martin was charged earlier this year with tampering with a motor vehicle and stalking on unrelated cases.
