Former State Trooper Headed To Prison:

A former Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper is headed to prison after violating his parole for assaulting his wife.

Thirty three year-old Kenny Lynn Dean, who was assigned to Troop D (southwest Missouri) from January of '01 to March of '04, was charged last June with kidnapping, burglary and beating up his estranged wife Tracy in Christian County.  Those charges were amended to second degree domestic assault, which he pleaded guilty to on February 18th of this year, and was placed on 5 years probation.

Christian County chief assistant prosecutor Chris Lebeck says that after Dean was released from the Christian County jail he went to Tracy Dean's home in Nixa and held her against her will for at least 24 hours.  A family member called authorities after they had not heard from the woman. 

As police officers arrived at Tracy Dean's home they found her running to a neighbor's house for help. Officers attempted to apprehend Dean, who fled in a vehicle and led officers on a high speed chase, "But he wasn't havin' any part of that and sped up," according to Nixa police Detective Jason Hartsell.

Dean's former colleagues and officers with the Ozark police department assisted in the chase that ended at 2405 W. Westwind Drive in Ozark after the vehicle Dean was driving was disabled by spike strips.  Dean then bolted from his vehicle and attempted to steal a pickup truck parked in the driveway.  Unsuccessful, he ran into the open garage of strangers and picked up a large metal object and assaulted Trooper Scott Rice and Ozark police officer Tim Fielden.

Dean also pleaded guilty last week to two counts of second degree assault of a law enforcement officer and one count of burglary.  He will be sentenced on those charges on August 12th.

Dean was also sentenced to four years in prison for defrauding a secured creditor and was sentenced to four years in prison on that charge which will be served concurrent (at the same time) to the five year sentence.



In February of 2009 Stone County prosecutor Matt Selby charged Dean with first-degree domestic assault, second-degree felonious restraint and second-degree domestic assault and endangering the welfare of a child after Dean allegedly kidnapped Tracy Dean from their Highlandville home and beat her up at several places in Stone County before bringing her to her mother's home in Riverfork Ranch and holding both women against their will there.  That assault left Tracy Dean with bleeding on her brain and a fractured wrist.

He is scheduled to stand trial on the Stone County Charges in August of this year.

A former Highway Patrol Trooper who was sentenced to five years probation after pleading guilty to  domestic assault on February 18th is facing new charges in Christian County.

Prosecutors have charged Kenny Lynn Dean with burglary following a high speed chase on Tuesday that began in Nixa and ended in Ozark.

Detective Jason Hartsell with the Nixa police department says they received a phone call from a family member of Dean's estranged wife Tracy saying the were concerned for her well being.

As police officers arrived at the woman's home (who had an active protection order against Dean) they found her running to a neighbor's house to call for help after she was allegedly held against her will for at least 24 hours by Kenny Dean.  Officers attempted to apprehend Dean, who fled in a vehicle, "But he wasn't havin' any part of that and sped up," according to Hartsell.

In February of 2009 prosecutors in Stone County charged Dean with first-degree domestic assault, second-degree felonious restraint and second-degree domestic assault for an incident that left Tracy Dean with bleeding on her brain and a fractured wrist.

In July he was charged with defrauding a secured creditor in Christian County and last month he was charged with theft for allegedly stealing a flatbed trailer from his ex business partner in December.

Christian County chief assistant prosecutor Donovan Dobbs says they are waiting on additional reports from Nixa and Ozark and anticipate filing additional charges that could include assault of a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest and attempting to flee.  Dobbs says they will ask a judge to revoke his probation.

One of Dean's former wife's says she's concerned that he will kill Tracy Dean, their children and will commit suicide by cop if he is let out on bond.

Dean is currently being held without bond in the Christian County jail.

Former Trooper Charged With Kidnapping Facing Additional Charges:

A former Highway Patrol trooper charged with kidnapping his wife last month in Christian County is now facing charges of defrauding a secured creditor.

Christian County Prosecutor Ron Cleek says Kenny Dean and his wife Tracy operated Pushrod Auto Sales in Highlandville and entered into a contract with GAAC to finance vehicles in August of 2008. According to the probable cause statement filed with the charges, Dean allegedly sold a 2007 Ford Expedition, a 2006 Ford E350 and a 1984 Corvette on e-bay and has refused to tell authorities or the finance company where the vehicles are located.

It is alleged that Dean took the proceeds from the sale of the vehicles and paid Tracy Dean's mother, Gaila Limeberry, $20,000 for repayment of a loan. GAAC filed a civil case against Dean in Clay County.

Dean is also facing assault and felonious restraint charges in Stone County for an alleged attack on his wife in February.

Cleek says, "I haven't filed charges related to this case against Tracy Dean....yet."

His preliminary hearing on the kidnapping and burglary charges was rescheduled after Dean changed attorneys. He is being held in the Christian County jail without bond.

A former Highway Patrol trooper charged in Stone County last February with domestic assault and felonious restraint for an alleged attack on his wife has been now been charged in Christian County (P/C at link) with kidnapping, burglary and domestic assault for an unrelated incident on June 15th.

Nixa police officer Jon Huff writes in the probable cause statement that Kenny Dean, 32, Highlandville, kidnapped his estranged wife, Tracy, from her home in Nixa about 10:20 p.m.

Tracy Dean told Huff that she saw a green Bravada drive by her residence and went to see if it was Kenny. She told investigators that she watched as Kenny ran up to the door, banged on it and screamed at her. Tracy Dean told Huff she backed up toward the living room with a gun in her hand and told her husband she had an active order of protection out on him.

Tracy Dean says Kenny was enraged as he charged through the front door. According to the probable cause statement, Tracy Dean "shot at him in fear for her life. She said Kenny then knocked the gun to the floor, took the gun and hit her on the head with it." He then forced her to the pantry while holding the gun to her head and threatened to blow her head off.

Tracy Dean told Huff that her estranged husband, "grabbed her hair and forced her into the
living room. She stated he put the gun back on the counter" before he forcing her into a suburban. A neighbor who lives across the street from Tracy Dean told authorities that he witnessed Kenny Dean force Tracy Dean into the vehicle.

Kenny Dean held Tracy by the hair as he drove toward Hawthorne Road in Highlandville where he allegedly assaulted her again. The Dean's lived on Hawthorne Road until their house burned down in January. Tracy Dean told investigators that Kenny told her he was going to hold her in one of the outbuildings on the property.

While Tracy Dean was being interviewed by Office Huff, Kenny Dean showed up at the police station which "terrified" Tracy Dean. Huff says he asked Dean to wait while he finished the interview.

While waiting for Huff, an employee of Kenny Dean's, Shannon Bailey, showed up at the police department at Dean's request. Huff writes, "I spoke with Bailey. Bailey began to tell me that he had helped Kenny drop off a vehicle at 711 Lantern Ridge. I told Bailey I thought he was being deceptive. Bailey then recanted his above story and said Kenny had called him and
asked him to fabricate the story he had just told me".

Huff then interviewed Kenny Dean who told him, "He received a call from Tracy that she was going to kill herself." Dean says he went over to her house and saw Tracy Dean pointing a gun at herself through the front door. He says he then went inside the house and attempted to get the gun away from his wife when it went off. A bullet was found lodged in the storm door of the residence.

Dean told Huff that, "He hadn't forced Tracy into any vehicle and never assaulted her."

Dean is being held without bond in the Christian County jail. His bond for the Stone County incident was revoked and has now been set at $250,00 cash only.

Christian County Prosecutor Ron Cleek says, "I am not seeking hindering prosecution charges against Bailey at this time. I think we have the bad guy."

Kenny Dean's preliminary hearing has been set for June 28th in Christian County.
