Domestic Disturbance Leads To Man Stabbing Brother In Baxter County:

A man from Baxter County, Arkansas has been arrested and charged with assault for allegedly stabbing his brother as he tried to break up a domestic disturbance between the man and his wife.

Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery says deputies were called by the owner of Bayou Resort shortly before 8 p.m. last night (02-12-11) who said there was a man who had been stabbed on his porch.

As officers approached a cabin where the suspected stabber was supposed to be hiding, one of them spotted the suspect hiding in the woods in back of the cabin.  After a brief chase, Travis John Clary, 26, of Gamaliel was arrested.

At the time of his arrest, Clary had blood on his pants and appeared intoxicated.  A double edged dagger, believed to be the weapon used in the stabbing, was found outside the cabin.  The sheath for the knife was inside the dwelling, which was in complete disarray.

Twenty seven year-old Timothy J. Clary was transported by private vehicle to Baxter Regional Hospital with a single stab wound to the stomach.

Travis Clary, who is also facing charges of domestic battery and fleeing an officer, is being held in the Baxter County jail on $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on March 10th.

Baxter County Woman Charged With First Degree Murder For Thanksgiving Shooting:

 A woman from Mountain Home, Arkansas has been charged with first-degree murder for allegedly shooting her boyfriend to death on Thanksgiving.

Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery says that a coworker of Rhonda Jean Clark called 9-1-1 after Clark came to work yesterday (11-25-10) and stated that 43-year-old Antonio Sanchez III had committed suicide around midnight.

Baxter County Deputies and first responders from the Mountain Home Fire Department responded to the couples residence at 890 Old Tracy Ferry Road and forced entry. Once inside, deputies found Sanchez in the living room area of the home and it appeared he had been dead for several hours.

Investigators recovered a rifle, which is believed to be the murder weapon, from inside the home.

Clark is being held Friday in the Baxter County Jail at Mountain Home on $1 million bond.

Commander Of Reserve Deputies In Baxter County, Arkansas Arrested For Alleged Domestic Assault:

The commander of reserve deputies in Baxter County, Arkansas has been suspended after his arrest last night (08-16-10) for misdemeanor domestic assault.

Mountain Home police chief Carry Manuel says forty year-old Brian K. Rowe, of Mountain Home, was arrested by police in Mountain Home after a verbal fight between Rowe and his estranged wife allegedly became physical when Rowe shoved his 15 year-old stepson into a doorway, cutting the boy's head.

Rowe, who has been the commander of reserve deputies for the past two years, was released on $500 bond.

Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery placed Rowe on administrative leave until his case is resolved in District Court.

Arkansas Man Charged For Threatening To Kill Child For Walking On Street:

An elderly man from Salesville, Arkansas has been charged with threatening to kill a little boy for walking down the street with his skateboard.

Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery says Emile Joseph Landry, 74, began yelling at the 11 year-old as the child was walking down the street.

Landry was charged with terroristic threatening after a witness told authorities Landry threatened to kill the child and told the child he had a gun and would shoot him. The witness told the deputy that Landry removed a .22 caliber handgun from his pocket and handed it to him to keep before deputies arrived on scene.

Both the witness and child said Landry did not displayed the weapon during the incident.

Landry is being held in the Baxter County jail on $10,000.

Baxter County, AR Sheriff's Office To Be Featured On AMW March 13th:

Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery and his office will be featured on the national television show, ‘America's Most Wanted' this Saturday night (March 13 at 8 CST on FOX).

Montgomery was nominated for the America's Most Wanted All Star Award and has been voted the winner of week 3.

Montgomery says, "It is truly an honor to not only be nominated, but to be named as one of eight national finalists for this award. This is a direct reflection of the hard work and dedication of our officers and staff of the Baxter County Sheriff's Office and gives us a chance to showcase Baxter County and Arkansas."

A television film crew spent about five hours Tuesday interviewing Sheriff Montgomery, Captain Jeff Lewis and Brenda Johnson, who nominated Montgomery the award.

"I am very proud that the entire country will be able to see our professional organization and the outstanding people who work here, "said Montgomery.

As a result of the national exposure AMW has brought to the Baxter County Sheriff's Office, Montgomery has been asked to make a guest appearance on a talk radio show in Los Angeles called ‘Justice Interrupted'.

The show is hosted by Robin Sax (a prosecutor/author) and Stacy Dittrich (a police officer/author). After learning of the tough stance Montgomery uses on sex offenders, they invited Montgomery to be a call-in guest to talk about sex offenders and how my office's handles them and the public notifications we provide when they move into our county.

Baxter County Arkansas Sheriff John Montgomery received a phone call at 6:30 a.m. on March 8th to inform that due to overwhelming community support he garnered enough votes to advance as a finalist in America’s Most Wanted All Star Awards process.

Sheriff Montgomery was nominated for the 2010 All Star Award by Brenda Johnson, who made the nomination in recognition of his innovative use of technology in the apprehension of wanted persons, in crime prevention, and in the area of public safety.

Johnson nominated Sheriff Montgomery for the design and innovative implementation of the Sheriff’s Office web site, which automatically notifies members of the public with email alerts in many areas. These include alerts involving Registered Sex Offenders who move into Baxter County neighborhoods, public notices of persons placed on the Most Wanted section of the web site, and breaking news alerts.

In recognition of his moving into a finalist position, representatives from America’s Most Wanted will travel to Mountain Home on Tuesday, March 9th to interview Sheriff Montgomery in preparation of the final round of voting.

The Sheriff's nominator praised him for designing and implementing the Sheriff's Office web site, which automatically notifies members of the public with email alerts in many areas. These include alerts involving Registered Sex Offenders who move into Baxter County neighborhoods, public notices of persons placed on the Most Wanted section of the web site, and breaking news alerts.

The Sheriff's Office web site, which went online in November, 2007, averages about 75,000 visitors per month, and surpassed one million visitors last year. Since its implementation, over 600 persons appearing on the Most Wanted page have been arrested or turned themselves in. The Baxter County Sheriff's web site has been used as a template for at least nineteen other Sheriff's Offices in Arkansas and in seven states.

Sheriff Montgomery is the Legislative Chairperson for the Arkansas Sheriff's Association and is a member of the Northwest Arkansas Economic Development District, as well as being a member in several local organizations. The Sheriff has also been recognized for his public service accomplishments. These include receiving the 2006 Mountain Home Chamber of Commerce Presidential Award and the 2009 Morgan's Choice Award from the Attorney Generals Office for his efforts in the protection of children.
