Authorities in Christian County are looking for a man who allegedly shot a woman in the head and hand last night in Ozark.

Sheriff Joey Kyle says Donelle Woodruff, 50, was inside her home at 1013 Golden Rod Road when police believe her son-in-law Robert Wendell Berry allegedly fired shots into the house. Authorities believe Berry knocked on the front door and opened fire on Woodruff when she went to answer the door.

Woodruff was able to flee to a neighbors house who called authorities. She was transported to a Springfield hospital where she has undergone surgery and is in a medically induced coma. A family dog was killed by one of the gunshots.

Kyle says they are looking for Berry, 45, of Ava, who has access to several vehicles and has lived in Christian, Ozark and Douglas counties. Sheriff Kyle says Berry was recently charged with child molestation and it's not clear if the attack on Woodruff is related to those charges. Online court records did not show the molestation charges this morning.

Kyle says three residences wee searched overnight, including Berry's mother's home in Sparta where several weapons were missing. He says he may call ask for help from the U.S. Marshal's fugitive task force in apprehending Berry who is 5’09” and 170 pounds.

Christian County Prosecutor Amy Fite has charged Berry with first-degree assault, armed criminal action and first-degree burglary for last night's shooting.
