Ava Man Pleads Guilty To Transporting Teen Across State Lines For Illicit Sex:

Shane Jay Fleetwood (mug shot GCSO)

A truck driver from Ava has admitted to transporting a fifteen year-old girl across state lines for illicit sex.

In a surprise move in federal court yesterday, Shane Jay Fleetwood pleaded guilty in the middle of proceedings.  Prosecutors say that Fleetwood met the victim and her family at church and that Fleetwood's daughter was a friend of the victim.

The victim’s parents let their daughter go on a road trip with Fleetwood in February of 2010 with the understanding that his daughter was going too.....she didn't.

The relationship between the forty one year-old man and the teen was uncovered after the girls parents found a Valentine's Day card from the Fleetwood to their daughter.  In the first day of testimony the girl said she and Fleetwood had sex in his semi-truck during their trip to Kansas, as well as at Fleetwood’s home after their return.

Under federal statutes, Fleetwood is facing at least ten years in federal prison without parole or up to a life sentence, plus a fine up to $250,000.
