Murder Suspect In Greene County Jail After Waiving Extradition:

A Springfield man charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action for the death of his roommate last March is now in the Greene County jail after pleading guilty to several charges in Boone County, Arkansas and waiving extradition back here.

Jefferey Todd Wooderson, 42, was arrested last March near Harrison after a high speed chase that began in Taney County and crossed state lines. He was driving the stolen sport utility vehicle of the murder victim, Gary Lee Russell.

Wooderson is accused of allegedly bludgeoning the 55 year-old man to death while he slept at their home in the 1700 block of East Florida Street. Family members of Russell went to the men's home on March 21, 2010, after not hearing from him for several days and found him dead. Authorities believe Russell had been dead several days before his body was found.

Wooderson was charged in Arkansas with aggravated assault, theft and driving while intoxicated and felon in possession of a firearm and was sentenced to a total of 14 years on all the charges.

Wooderson', who has pleaded not guilty, preliminary hearing is schedueld for August 31st.
